Sample Projects

The type of projects we have worked on recently include:

Cat5e, multi-trade, multi-storey : Cat6, concept building, Coventry :
Fibre LAN, security, N. Ireland : Voice and fibre backbone cabling :
CISCO wireless network : Independent audit services :
Project management services : European roll-out : Listed building installations

Design and Installation of Cat5e Network

Multiple trade, multi-storey

Design and installation of 1400 Krone Cat5e outlets across 4 Floors. The project involved working with multiple trades on site to the tightest timescales.

Design and Installation of Cat6 Network

Concept building, Coventry

Design and installation of 1300 Krone Cat6 outlets within a new concept building in Coventry.

This project involved the design and installation of an infrastructure for a two-storey building that required over 1300 Krone Cat6 outlets routing back to 17 satellite cabinets fed from a Primary Communications Room.

The Primary Communications Room centrally connects each of the satellite locations with various media. These include Cat6 data backbones and voice multi-core cables to each satellite position.

Also, there were two 16-core fibre cables installed to provide incoming services from the Main Campus Network. The external fibre is complimented with 640 pairs of external voice to provide telephone extensions from the nearest telephone exchange point.

The containment that supports the cabling infrastructure was provided by third parties. As well as managing our installation, we coordinated the work of the other parties, to ensure the installed system complied with all relevant standards.

Design and Installation of Fibre LAN

Security requirements, Northern Ireland

Fibre LAN cabling for a two storey building in Northern Ireland providing fibre to the desk top where security is vital to the client.

Voice and Fibre Backbone Cabling

Internal and external cabling, surge suppression

Voice and Fibre backbone cabling for various clients running internally and externally. Use of surge suppression for the copper connections where applicable and varying grades of fibre dependant on link requirements.

Survey and Installation of CISCO Wireless Network

Primary school, East London

Site survey and installation of Cisco Wireless Network for a Primary School in East London. Enabling limited resources to be deployed to obtain maximum benefit.

Independent Audit Services

Testing, documentation and recommendations

Independent audit services for Education and Police Authorities. Included the testing and documentation of existing third-party installations. Recommendations of future requirements encompassing the inherited infrastructure where possible to reserve funds.

Project Management Services

Coordination across multiple contractors

Providing additional services such as computer flooring, where its use enhanced the functionality of the Communications Room. This was delivered by a simple instruction from the client without further involvement.

q2 provides a single point of contact, which can be essential when the client's project has to coordinate across many areas of a new build.

European Roll-out

11 sites across Germany

On 11 sites across Germany, we installed Krone Cat5e LSF cabling back to new cabinet positions.

Logistics and timing are crucial to the success of any large project, especially when the are bulky items and many people. Site locations outside of the UK add to the complications.

q2 pride ourselves on being able to cope with all aspects of our service delivery wherever it may be required. Our planning processes build in comprehensive contingency elements to ensure that all goes smoothly.

When projects do not conform to standard requirements, we take away the pitfalls.

Listed Building Installations

High profile Grade One listed building

With so many new building projects these days itŐs hard to imagine installing modern networks into period buildings. When it comes to listed buildings there are many more considerations involved when designing the communications plan.

Our experience of a high profile Grade One listed building recently presented an interesting challenge.

The construction techniques from its time hampered both fixed and wireless communication approaches.

As the usage of the infrastructure required some fixed points it became clear that we had to find our way around the building discretely!

Attempting to hide white plastic trunking and conduit in a lavishly decorated environment takes inventiveness and experience.

q2 have both in abundance.

The outlets were distributed through numerous levels from a basement Communications Room location. The external services were installed from the more modern buildings some 500 metres away via underground duct work.
